Fire Chief Designation Program

We are in the process of revamping this program.  If you were planning to apply for certification or recertification, go ahead and get the necessary paperwork/certificates together.  The requirements will not change for this program.

Basically, some of the administrative functions of the program will change and we are answering the question of “what are the benefits” of this program.

More information will follow at Midwinter Conference.

The deadlines and process will continue to be as they were in the past.

Around midnight our department was responding to a major vehicle accident when our engine got into an accident itself. The engine rolled and trapped one of our firefighters under it. The firefighter was life flighted to a hospital, but by the grace of God, is expected to make a full recovery. We are asking for prayers for the firefighter and the firefighter’s family, as well as all of us here at Wiggins Fire Department. We appreciate the support and look forward to continuing to serve our community and getting our firefighter back with us soon! Thank you, Chief Purvis ... See MoreSee Less

Good morning. I hope you have made plans to be in Natchez in a few weeks. I wanted to be sure to draw your attention to a couple of items for that week.1. Don’t forget Lifetime Member nominations. If you have someone who you feel is deserving of the Lifetime Membership, please forward a letter of recommendation to us as soon as you can. While there is not deadline, we do prefer to have them before the conference so the Executive Board can review those and make a recommendation to the body during the conference.2. At midwinter we mentioned the website and association database were going through a revamp. I’m very happy to say the process is moving along very nicely. We had the opportunity to get a sneak peek at this last week. I am confident you will be very pleased. The new website will be very user friendly. It will also have an online portal where you can renew your membership. We will have a session during the conference about all of the upgrades and features that will be available. You don’t want to miss this.3. We will have two breakout sessions during the firefighter’s conference that are geared toward leadership in the fire service. These sessions will cover Fire Department Leadership and Fire Department Management. Specifically they will be geared towards people who are new to the role of Asst. Chief/Chief or those who aspire to be a chief officer one day. We have placed these in the firefighter portion of the conference so anyone who has aspirations can attend. If you will have young future leaders at the conference, please encourage them to attend these sessions. Also, if you have been a chief officer for some time, this will count toward your training hours for that position. We will have a sign in sheet at each session and offer a certificate of training through the MSFCA for these two sessions.Again, I look forward to seeing you in Natchez. It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of recently retired Fire Inspector Frank Beasley. Inspector Beasley dedicated 36 years of his life to the Clarksdale Fire Department and the citizens of Clarksdale. Frank was an advocate for his community, where his life’s work was not only dedicated to the fire service, but he also spent countless hours directing youth programs. He was well known and liked throughout the whole city. He brought joy to many faces through his mentoring programs, sports organizations and community outreach programs through the fire department. Everyone at CFD would like to express our deepest love and condolences to our brother’s family during this time. We ask that the community lift them up in your prayers. Services will be announced by his family. ... See MoreSee Less
